STSA #106: 30 Things That Make You Smile

Something to Smile About
May is National Smile Month! Of course, around these parts, EVERY month is National Smile Month. Need some help turning that frown upside down? Here’s a list courtesy of Katie in Kentucky.
Bet We Can Get You to Smile Again, Visit Epic Dental!
30 Things That Make You Smile

Sleeping in

A perfect cup of coffee

A handwritten letter

Singing in the shower

A home cooked meal

Putting your hand in your pocket and finding a $20 bill

Movie theater popcorn

An unplanned afternoon nap

Getting the lid off a jar without asking for help

Your favorite song on the radio

Old fashioned photo booths

When you’re late and discover the person you’re meeting is later than you are

Seeing your baby for the first time on ultrasound

Finding the perfect piece of clothing - on sale

Clean laundry

A big ol’ bear hug

Staying in your PJ’s all day

Puppies

Holding open the door…or having someone hold the door for you

Green lights all the way home

Finally figuring out the lyrics to that song

Holding hands

A great hair day

The smell of fresh-baked bread

No lines in the supermarket

The cold side of the pillow

A pull-through parking space

A spoonful of peanut butter straight from the jar

Heated car seats

Exact change

I like this short poem by Karen McLendon-Laumann:

Smiling is infectious, You catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling, too.

Now, get out there and start smiling!

STSA #104: A Letter From Mom

Something to Smile About
April is National Card and Letter Writing Month. See, back before email, texting, IM’s and video chatting, people actually picked up a pen, scratched out some thoughts on paper, stuffed it in an envelope and dropped it in a mailbox. I know, I know…that’s a lot of hard work. But it means a lot to the one who receives it. Why, just the other day I received this heartfelt letter from my mother…
Bet We Can Get You to Smile Again, Visit Epic Dental!
My dearest daughter,

Just a few lines to let you know that I’m still alive.

I’m writing this letter slowly because I know that you cannot read fast.

In case you come to visit, we don’t live where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen within 20 miles from your home, so we moved.

Speaking of your father … he has a lovely new job. He has 500 men under him. He cuts the grass at the cemetery.

Your brother locked his keys in the car yesterday. It took him nearly two hours to get
me and your father out.

Your sister Mary had a baby this morning. I haven’t found out whether it is a boy or girl, so I don’t know whether you’re an aunt or uncle.

If it’s a girl they plan to name her after grandma, though I think it’s rather strange to name a baby “Grandma.”

I went to the doctor on Thursday and your father came with me. The doctor put a small tube into my mouth and told me not to open it for ten minutes. Your father offered to buy it from him.

Well, dear, it’s time to bring this letter to a close. I would have sent money, but the envelope was already sealed.

Love,

Mom

P.S. - If you didn’t get this letter, please let me know so I can send you another one.

Oh well, it’s the thought that counts. Right?

STSA #103: Bust Your Gut - Not Your Bracket!

Something to Smile About
Do you have basketball fever? Whether you’ve been swept into the madness or you’re just ready to have your TV back, enjoy these funny quotes from some of basketball’s best!
Bet We Can Get You to Smile Again, Visit Epic Dental!
“Fans never fall asleep at our games, because they’re afraid they might get hit by a pass.”—George Raveling

“These are my new shoes. They’re good shoes. They won’t make you rich like me, they won’t make you rebound like me, they definitely won’t make you handsome like me. They’ll only make you have shoes like me. That’s it.”—Charles Barkley

“There are really only two plays: Romeo and Juliet, and put the darn ball in the basket.”  - Abe Lemons

“I’m tired of hearing about money, money, money, money, money. I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok.” - Shaq O’Neal

“We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors.”—Weldon Drew

“The only difference between a good shot and a bad shot is if it goes in or not.” - Charles Barkley

“Any time Detroit scores more than a hundred points and holds the other team below a hundred points, they almost always win.”—Doug Collins

“The secret is to have eight great players and four others who will cheer like crazy.” - Jerry Tarkanian

“Any American boy can be a basketball star if he grows up, up, up.”—Bill Vaughn

“Left hand, right hand, it doesn’t matter. I’m amphibious.” -Charles Shackleford

“Kids are great. That’s one of the best things about our business, all the kids you get to meet. It’s a shame they have to grow up to be regular people and come to the games and call you names.” - Charles Barkley

“They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they’d make up their minds.”—Wilt Chamberlain

Personally, I think Jack Dolph was right when he said, “The game is too long, the season is too long and the players are too long.” But please don’t tell my husband. He’s already mad because my bracket is beating his.

STSA #102: You’ll be “Dublin” over with laughter!

Something to Smile About
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Yes, I know it’s not until Saturday. But we can get a head start with some fun (but not necessarily funny) St. Paddy’s Day jokes!
Bet We Can Get You to Smile Again, Visit Epic Dental!
Q. Why would you never iron a four-leaf clover?
A. Because you shouldn’t press your luck!

Q: Why do people wear shamrocks on St. Patrick’s Day?
A: Real rocks are too heavy.

Q: Why can’t you borrow money from a leprechaun?
A: Because they’re always a little short.

Q: How did the Irish Jig get started?
A: Too much whiskey and not enough restrooms!

Q: What would you get if you crossed Quasimodo with an Irish football player?
A: The Halfback of Notre Dame!

Q: Do leprechauns make good secretaries?
A: Sure, they’re great at shorthand!

Q: Why are leprechauns so hard to get along with?
A: Because they’re short-tempered!

Q: Why did St. Patrick drive all the snakes out of Ireland?
A: He couldn’t afford plane fare

Q: What happens when a leprechaun falls into a river?
A: He gets wet!

Q: What did the leprechaun say to the elf?
A: How’s the weather up there?

Q: Do leprechauns get angry when you make fun of their height?
A: Yeah, but only a little!

What’s that? You want one more? Okay.

Knock, knock!
Who’s there?
Irish.
Irish who?
Irish you a happy St. Patrick’s Day!
