STSA Issue #26: March 25, 2009 Great April Fools Pranks

Guten Tag! Writing this from our family vacation in Germany. Everyone’s well, and we’re adjusting just enough so that we’ll all be screwed up when we come back to the states this weekend. Next week marks one of our favorite “holidays” of the year: April Fools Day. Thanks to Lisa J. from Portland for sharing these wonderful prank ideas:

• Get up really early and sneak into your victims bathroom and fill their hair-dryer with baby powder. And when they turn it on, their head will be pure white just like an old person!
• Before one of your family members takes a shower, remove the shower head and place a life-saver candy in it, replace the shower head with the candy now trapped in it. When the person takes a shower he or she will not notice, until they get out and start to dry off the towel will stick to them they will get back in the shower to rinse off… works like a charm.
• Find a box about the size of a cake. Then cover it with frosting, making it look like a cake. Then put it out in the office kitchen, or wherever people leave free food. Sit back as one of your co-workers tries to cut a slice.
• Stick a post-it note under your friend’s mouse so that the paper leaf covers the mouse ball - the mouse will no longer work! Align so that the sticky part of the note doesn’t touch the ball. Costs next to nothing to do, and doesn’t cause any damage.
• Put some water in a cereal bowl, and place it in the freezer so that the water freezes. Offer to make your sister/brother cereal in the morning. Make sure you use that same bowl. Put their favorite cereal over the top of the ice, and serve.

Remember, these are all in good fun, and it’s good to take life (and yourself) not too seriously. Laughs and smiles make the world go ‘round. Which is why our family’s so grateful to Epic Dental for making our smiles that much brighter.

Big Smiles!

Kayak: Thinking about flying? Kayak is a travel search engine that provides you an easy-to-use look at the best deals. What’s even better – Kayak will send you fare alerts if prices change. This is great if you plan on flying somewhere maybe later this summer.

Wikitravel: More than 20,000 free destination guides for travelers around the globe. If you’re planning a trip, this should be among your first stops as you plan.

Mint: Whether you’re saving for a vacation or simply a rainy day, Mint is an amazing resource for personal finance management. Easy to use, safe, and scalable, you should give Mint a try to if you need help measuring and tracking where your money goes.

Picnik: Once you’ve got those vacation photos, why not edit them online for free with Picnik? It, too, is very easy to use, and there’s nothing to install on your computer. It’s pretty great.

Issue #25: March 11, 2009, Travel Fun

Hello again. Do you have any spring breakers in your world? We’re taking a big family trip next week to Germany to see our middle son – who’s been on a Rotary International trip since August. Which translates into waaaaay to long for this mom. Speaking of translations, our son has clued us into some translations as we’ve planned this vacation. With summer coming on, I thought you might find them useful.

“Old world charm” really means “Private room but public bathroom.”
“Tropical” really means “It’s going to rain … a lot …”
“Majestic setting” really means “An obscenely long way from town at end of dirt road.”
“Options galore” really means “Bring LOTS of extra cash.”
“Secluded hideaway” really means “You will get lost … a lot …”
“Knowledgeable trip hosts” really means “They’ve driven a car at least once.”
“No extra fees” really means “No extras.”
“Nominal fee” really means “Outrageous charge.”
“Standard” really means “Sub-standard.”
“Deluxe” really means “Standard.”
“Superior accommodations” really means “Private bathroom.”
“All the amenities” really means “Private Bathroom with a shower cap.”
“Gentle breezes” really means “Hang on.”
“Light and airy” really means “No air conditioning.”

Wish us luck! Our oldest daughter speaks a bit of German, but the rest of us will rely on our two oldest kids. We’re also going to be introducing the wonders of Epic Dental to the Rhineland.

Got something that makes you smile? Please, do send it along!

And, here, as always are some sweet links to enjoy.
