STSA #90: I’ll trade my applesauce for your tater tots!

Something to Smile About
This is National School Lunch Week (October 10-14)!  Of course, we wouldn’t have school lunch without the lovely ladies behind the counter in the cafeteria. Those devoted daily dispensers of dietary delights who, as Adam Sandler sings, gladly serve “some re-heated Salisbury steak with a little slice of love.” Here are some of our favorite Cafeteria Lady quotes that were sent to us by Becky in South Bend, IN:

Cafeteria Lady’s Quotes (www.marthabolton.com)

“I regret that I have only one life to give for my lasagna.”

“It’s always darkest before the smoke alarm goes off.”

“Hope for the best, but prepare for dinner.”

“When the meatloaf explodes, it’s done.”

“The eyes are bigger than the stomach. And so are my dumplings.”

“You can’t have my cake and hide it, too.”

“The only thing we have to fear is my liver casserole.”

“Dinner’s done. Call 911.”

“Rolaids–they’re not just for breakfast anymore.”

“If you can’t stand the smoke, get out of my kitchen.”

“If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, put it back in the oven and cook it a little longer.”

“If the pasta wiggles, don’t eat it.”

“One rotten apple gives the pie an interesting flavor.”

Remember, your lunch lady has been on her feet all morning slaving over a hot stove for you!  Show your appreciation! Who knows, you might even get an extra scoop of mashed potatoes!

Special thanks to our friends at Epic Dental for making this possible once again!

STSA #89 How Much Does It Cost For A Pirate To Get His Ears Pierced?

Something to Smile About
A buccaneer! (Say it out loud. Ha! Get it?).  I’ve been studying up for International Talk Like A Pirate Day on Monday, September 19.  You can, too, with this handy, dandy guide that was sent to us by Craig in Abilene, Kansas.
Bet We Can Get You to Smile Again, Visit Epic Dental!
HOW TO TALK LIKE A PIRATE:

Ahoy: Hey!
Avast: Stop!
Aye: Yes
Booty: Treasure
Cat o’ nine tails: Whip for floggin’ mutineers
Davy Jones’ Locker: The bottom o’ the sea, where the souls of dead men lie
Doubloons: Pieces of gold.
Fiddlers Green: The private heaven where pirates be goin’ when they die.
Furner: A ship which be yer own, not one ye steal an’ plunder.
Gentlemen o’ fortune: A slightly more positive term fer pirates!
Grog: Pirate’s favorite drink.
Jack: Flag or a sailor
Jolly Roger: The skull and crossbones, the pirate flag!
Keelhaul: A truly vicious punishment where a scurvy dog be tied to a rope and dragged along the barnacle-encrusted bottom of a ship. They not be survivin’ this.
Landlubber: “Land-lover,” someone not accustomed to livin’ aboard a ship.
Lass: Woman.
Lily-livered: Faint o’ heart
Loaded to the Gunwales: Drunk
Matey: Shipmate or friend.
Me hearty: See “Matey”.
Me: My.
Pieces o’ eight: Pieces o’ silver which can be cut into eights to be givin’ small change.
Scallywag: Bad person. A scoundrel.
Shiver me timbers!: Exclamation of surprise, to be shouted most loud.
Sprogs: Raw, untrained recruits
Squiffy: Buffoon
Swaggy: A scurvy cur’s ship what ye be intendin’ to loot!
Swashbucklin’: Fightin’ and carousin’ on the high seas!
Thar: The opposite of “here.”
Walk the plank: This one be bloody obvious.
Wench: A lady, although ye gents not be wantin’ to use this around a lady who be stronger than ye.
Yo-ho-ho: Pirate laughter

There ya be, matey. Go impress your lass or gentleman o’fortune with your piratey prowess. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go to the Apple store to buy an iPatch.
